Hello everyone, I just picked up this 1st press Rev #3 Sick of it All s/t black vinyl 7" that has something written with a blue ink pen on the inside of the cover / opposite side of inner printed/stamped number 0810... It says: " Soft + Alert." I already had a 1st press black version of this SOIA 7", but when I saw this strange writing on the inside of the cover along with the stamped number, I just had to jump on it...!!! Anyways... What I am getting at here is: Does anybody know anything about this interesting handwritten "Soft + Alert" writing??? And, has anybody EVER seen anything like this, with these 1st press / black vinyl Sick of it All records??? Any information would be well appreciated... Thank you very much. Sincerely with best regards, Dominick Here are the pics. Peep 'em out...

ive heard of things written on the inside, but only heard. never have seen proof. i have to say the condition of that sleeve alone was worth the price. treat it well.

Soft & Alert sounds like a brand of toilet paper.

Hello Geoff, Oh, I will be treating it well, that's for sure. I traded for it straight up for a Title Fight floral colored record, which I already had 3 copies of, lol... Well worth it, I'd say... Sorry Jay!!! No offense!!! I know you are very happy though... However, I just wish I could hear or read about somebody actually owning something like this or somebody having seen something like this... And, I wonder why they wrote stuff on some of the inside covers and never mentioned it on pressing information pages, like they did with Luke's special writings on GB's Rev: #4??? But, thank you very much Geoff!!! I am glad you have at least heard of some things being written on the inside of these... All the best, Dominick

Soft & Alert sounds like a brand of toilet paper. Yeah, I definitely want to wipe my ass with something "soft." And, I want to be "alert" while I am doing it . . .

I smell a reference to "Straight and Alert" aka Uniform Choice....
Maybe a critical note in the phase that U.C. went in a different direction?
But date 1st press SOIA=1987... Date 2nd UC LP =1988... So that doesn't add up entirely.
Good score! It looks legit.
Toilet paper comments are gold lol

Yeah, it is absolutely legit though. The dude I got it from is the original owner, got it straight from Rev when it first came out, and had it stored away in his collection (white 7" box) ever since... That explains the very good condition... I am pretty stoked about this one... Just wish I could hear or read some more evidence about this "Soft + Alert" deal or any other writings being seen on the insides of these... Take care, Dom

Just got a reply from Jordan:
Hi Dobek, I don't remember if anyone wrote on those when we were assembling. Someone just told me that they remember glueing them together at Ray and Porcell's apartment in Brooklyn, though I remember doing them in New Haven at my place. It's possible that some were done in NY and some in NH. Yes, that's funny and it does look like my handwriting, but I don't think that was something we did on the SOIA records generally. Hope that helps! -Jordan
Sam, the writings/drawings on the inside of the 1st press of NA were done by Brannon and Larissa Strickland. They're inside many (most??) of the 1st press copies

I have "I like BOLD" in the same exact colored pen and close to the same number. I always thought that it was just something someone randomly wrote. It still could be but it does appear that there is a pattern emerging.

These were obviously done at Ray/Porcell's house in the haze of weed smoke. By the time they got to 800s the party must have been in full swing hence no recollection of them ever being made. My copies are numbered 936 and 946 Probably left overs done the next day in the morning. Case closed.

this is really cool. i have a friend in philly who has one of these soia first pressings with "time to clobber" written in the same ink on the inside cover. i saw it many times and i heard of others too. im going to ask him to post a pic of it. obviously these should be documented in the pressing history. cant exactly remember number his is though. i have to get in touch with him over this. he will be ecstatic.

Whoa!!! I did not expect this? I thought this thread would be near the bottom of the page by the time I had a chance to sign in again today. There are more people than I expected who have seen and heard about these Sick of it All 1st press black wax inside the cover writings. I say, "order must be called upon." ;-) Now we all know about them. Type it up...

They're inside many (most??) of the 1st press copies Hey Dobek, Thanks for the reply. This is totally rad!!! Is this actually a letter written by Jordan himself, after seeing this thread with the pictures in it and all??? Or did you just write him about it??? I think he would have said a little more if he had been on here and seen the pictures of the 2 separate 1st press SOIA 7"s with writings in the same exact colored ink. Not to mention if he read all of the posts from people who have seen and heard about them... He must have quite a hazy memory himself? Just kidding on that one man.... I don't blame him... Why should we expect somebody to remember some writings in pen on the inside covers of Rev: #3, way back in 1987, after he probably stood in on the process of countless Revelation Records being pressed and assembled since then, lol... But, then again, they do remember Luke Abbey's 15 or so drawings/writings on the b-side labels of GB's Rev:#4 yellow wax 2nd press run... I really think these should be taken into consideration... I mean, after all, these are some of the highly collectible Revelation 1 through 23 recs we are talking about here... I really like how he said: "Yes, that's funny and it does look like my handwriting." That says a little something too... Thank you very much again Dobek... L8R man, Dominick

When I first got the copy, I was pissed cause I figured someone just randomly wrote in the sleeve, but I couldn't beat the price. Come to find out it's a little more special than that. Glad to have it.
