I could be wrong, but I think the calculator works out the shipping based on the number of records you buy with the price itself based on the format.

You bought three 12"s and two 7"s, so the formula is:

(3 x $12) + (2 x $7) = $50... less an automatic 1% loyal customer bonus to keep you coming back for more.

In your case it is $6,50 probably more in the actual shipping or something or a first automatic calculation, and they may actually charge you less in the end if it turns out cheaper.

The shipping prices are getting out of hand in alot of countries, if only speak for the dutch postal costs, to ship out 1 lp (at this moment), ouside of europe it cost:

18,05 euro(for a 2kg. first option package without track and trace code)
24,30 euro(for a 2kg. first option package with track and trace code)
25,60 euro(for a 2kg. first option package with track and trace code, and insurance for a total of 500 euro)
31,10 euro(for a 2kg. first option package with track and trace code, and insurance for a total of 5500 euro)

That means that 1 lp(12") cost the same as max. 7 lp's(12"'s) to ship

Sending out records from switzerland was always expenssive!

Then A registered costs around 24
Then faster delivery us about 30

If they keep $20 from every overseas order then probably within two months they'll have enough to press up another color. Let's say pink, for example. And when you order one of those pinks, they'll probably send you a green and charge an extra $20 for the next color.

It therefore seems to be your fault they keep repressing all of these colors. Please stop ordering.

Hello!
I received the package today. Thank you. There are two issues though that I wanted to address:

- the package was 3lb 5oz and according to the USPS site it costs $31.73 to post not $49.50. That's almost $20 more. This happens every time I order, sometimes there's more sometimes less but there's always postage overcharge. It adds up and I think by now it must have piled up to a significant sum. Ouch.

- Another thing is that I was under the impression the latest pressing of YOT Break Down The Walls LP was supposed to be on green vinyl and I have received a copy on blue which I already have.

I was wondering if there was any way I could arrange for a green BDTW if there are any left?
Please let me know!

i'm not sure why your copy of youth of today break down the walls wasn't on green vinyl, you must have got one of the very last copies of the blue, before we made the switch to the green ones. we have plenty left. so sorry about that.

Let's say the dude packs 10 boxes an hour (probably a lot more) scooping $15 for each box. That's $150 an hour. You knock about an 8 hour shift and walk home with a grand+ in your pocket.

I don't think this is entirely fair. I think Dobek's doing the right thing. He's challenging something that seems wrong. If we all just sat there and took it nothing would ever change. I think he's just getting frustrated because he's not getting anywhere and nobody else seems to give a shit. Even some people on here seem to be siding with Rev, which I suppose is almost understandable given that this is the Rev collectors forum.

I love Rev, I've bought more records from them then most people in the world over the past x years, but I completely agree that their overseas postage costs seem very high. Yes, I understand that they are a business and there are costs associated with shipping a parcel, but if it should cost $32 to ship and they add on $15 to cover overheads then that's not right. I mean, a mailer, some tape and a few minutes of some dude's time are the direct costs related to shipping a parcel, and clearly the share of these costs per parcel should be very low. Like $3 kinda level I would say, maybe a little less. But not $15. It's nice that they replied to the email asking why the costs are so high, but the reply doesn't REALLY make sense. I mean, those same costs of mailing also apply to shipping domestic US orders, but I bet they don't add anywhere near as much on to US orders. So why not? I mean, what's the difference?

My guess is that its just a system issue. As in, they have a shit system. I mean, when they say that "sometimes orders cost more than our system says to mail, sometimes they cost less, it's kind of an average system, and it's not exact"... well, surely postage IS exact. Especially in this digital age where postage prices are all readily available online. So if you know who your postage supplier is, then you very much should know what their charge will be because it's determined by the weight and size of the thing you're sending. So assuming you know the weight and size of the products you sell, you should be able to get the prices pretty damn close. So when someone places an order, you just need a system that looks up the weight & size of the stuff they've ordered against the postage price, then you add on a small % to cover your costs. It's not difficult. So maybe Rev they just have an old and/or simple system and literally do not have the ability to do this. Given that their website hasn't been updated in at least ten years, I don't think this an unreasonable assumption.

The fact is though, if you live overseas you can buy the records cheaper from someone on eBay. Seems absurd, but that's how it is. So my advice would be to do just that. I did the same with Hydrahead a few years ago because their costs went off the chart. I just made a choice that I'm not paying these crazy prices, and stopped. Any releases I wanted I just bought on eBay because the eBay sellers charge postage costs that are much closer to reality. So you just have to make a choice and move on. You either buy from the label or don't. But overall it's sad you even have to make such a choice because this is something that Rev could probably fix if they could be arsed.

@ mcs: good post. Indeed, if you don't like the prices/conditions then don't buy at Rev. That's what I've chosen too.

I personally think it's ridiculous that records sent TWICE arrive at my house cheaper!
Rev sends to someone in the US cheap, and that person sends it to me at REAL shipping prices, and helps to avoid customs costs. I can imagine Rev doesn't mark stuff as a gift and at value $5 either.

I find it fascinating that some (possibly more than some) Americans are willing to disrupt the peace of their day and threaten war only because someone barely mentioned their homeland in the negative light. Not even. I was simply referring to the tipping culture in the US. I for one live in a country when tipping is completely unheard of and if you tried to tip someone they would most definitely give you your money back thinking you're insane while in the US it isn't unheard of for a waiter to chase you down the street because you didn't leave him enough cash. It is America after all.

I can't for one imagine Regan or Leigh accusing me of taking cheap shots at Oz if I had written that I was chased across the swamp by a crock or was forced to live in a hole in ground in Coober Peddy or had my arm amputated because I took a nap in the library full of recluse spiders followed by "it is Australia after all"

There's this "science" museum somewhere in Kentucky I think that has a figure of a cave man with a dinosaur chained outside of the cave with a little saddle on it. Lolorama. As I said 40-45% of people in the US believe that shite to be the scientific fact because the bronze age book says so. That's almost 150,000,000 people. It is a shocking number. Earth is 4,600,000,000 years old and dinosaurs were wiped out 65-66,000,000 years before we even evolved as a species. Believing that Earth is 6000 years old is an equivalent to believing that the distance from New York to San Francisco is 8 yards. So much potential to take cheap shots at your great nation, but as I said earlier, I didn't.

All I want is for an independent record label, that I came to love over many years to stop stealing my cash. I'd say that's a reasonable request.

I'm all for supporting struggling labels that press vinyl. Really.
I thought the +$5 on each order was added to cover just that. I'd simply like to know why I paid almost $20 which on a $50-something order is almost 40% extra. I really don't mind paying some money extra for time/supplies but for $20 you can buy 40 record mailers not 1 which is how many you used to post my package.

I have a lot of friends who order from REV. What happened to me is not an alienated case. Just about everyone I know who lives outside of the US complains about the gross postage overcharge thing you have going. By saying "sometimes it's more, sometimes it's less" you're implying a 50/50 chance that you're losing money on postage. I have yet to find a single case where that would be true. Based on mine and my friend's experiences the charges are always more. Sometimes it's $5-$10 more but sometimes it's over $20. I haven't done the calculations but I'd say it's safe to assume that the money I sent you for nothing probably goes in hundreds of dollars by now. What you state above is quite simply not true.
