WARNING:
This is not about records. It's a venting post. If you've recently been under the influence of some posi youth crew stuff you should stop reading any further.
I haven't played ANY games for ageeeees. I'm talking years. Then, by a chance, I fairly recently found out that Mafia III was out back in 2016. I played the original game when it came out sometime in the early 00s and it was brilliant. Then Mafia II some few years later was probably the best thing my PC has ever seen so I thought I'd break my gaming hiatus and go for the Mafia III.
I saw it cheap on Amazon US so I picked up the deluxe version and few days later it arrived. New and sealed. Opened it up, started to install and the steam asked me for the activation code. I looked through all the content of the package and found nothing.
Quick google search revealed the following:

[PC] Missing Activation Code
2K Mike 1 year ago Updated
We’re aware of an issue affecting a small amount of physical Deluxe Editions of Mafia III on PC not including activation codes.
We ask that affected customers reach out to our customer support team and our agents can assist in resolving the issue.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
Fair enough. Shouldn't be difficult to sort out I'm thinking.. K2 support > open a new ticket > go...

Hello Dobek,
Thank you for taking the time to contact 2K Support!
Based on the information provided, you purchased Mafia III Deluxe Edition on Amazon and you didn't receive any activation key with it. I understand how frustrating this can be. Every customer should have received an activation code with their game. I suggest you to contact your retailer and ask for the code you are eligible to.
Thank you for your comprehension and your patience. If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask!
Sincerely,

I contacted amazon. They said there's nothing they can do. Other than keep the game as is or return it for a refund. I would like to play it so getting an activation key would be a preferable solution.

Hello Dobek,
Thank you for contacting us again at 2K Support!
I understand that Amazon wasn't able to assist you. I'd certainly be alarmed too if I hadn't received access to a game I was looking forward to.
Before taking the investigation further, could you please provide the following information:
Which edition of the game did you purchase?
Which Region/Location are you in?
What is your STEAM ID?
Could you please provide a screenshot/photo of your purchase receipt for the game (this KB article should show you how to accomplish this)
(Please note that you will need to have your ticket (#) or email address written on your receipt.)
We apologize for any inconvenience that this issue may have caused you, and we thank you for your patience.

I attached 3 screenshots off the amazon, it's impossible to get a screenshot of the receipt which includes my email addres from the amazon order history so I grabbed one screen directly off my email comfirmation which does show the email address the receipt was sent to. It's the screenshot #4
Please let me know if you have any further requirements

Dear Dobek,
Thank you for your patience!
From what we see from your invoice, the game copy was sold by a retailer called "TLinc". Unfortunately, "TLinc" is not a 2K affiliated vendor so we are unable to provide an activation Code in this case. I would like to redirect you to contact them, for a further assistance because they need to assure to their customers that they are selling a product in conditions of use which contains all the product specification.
In the meantime, if you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask as it would be our pleasure to assist you further.
Best regards,

Wasn't it you who didn't put the code into the games? It shouldn't matter who re-sells it. From what I see on the internet this is not an alieneted case.
There's been more than a few complaints over those missing codes.
This is only just slightly out of order.

Dear Dobek,
Thank you for your response.
I get your point and I am terribly sorry for this inconvenience, indeed you purchased from the Amazon US but the retailer is not Amazon itself. A used copy or redeemed code could also put it on sale on Amazon. Sadly, we are unable to provide a new Activation Code in this case.
Unfortunately, I was unable to locate any information about this retailer but as a customer, I believe that you should able to find the link to contact the seller through your purchase record.
Please refer to the following article: Contact Third-Party Sellers
www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=537800
In addition, 2K Japan should able to provide some assistance for the purchase within Japan.
We are looking forward to your response! If you have any questions or concerns going forward, don't don't hesitate to write in and ask. We're always happy to help.
Best regards,
Theo B.

I've returned the physical copy to Amazon (hopefully they'll send me my money back) and I bought the digital download of Mafia III directly off the steam webstore, which I should have done before. Lesson learnt. I will make sure that, in future, whatever I buy is from your hand picked and officially approved vendor. I will ban any and all sellers which do not have your official seal of approval certificate clearly displayed in a cabinet on every page in their webstores.
From now on, if possible at all I would like to avoid the repeat of going through many days of receiving any kind of "support". Especially that, at least in this case, the word "support" rather than matching its original dictionary definition, put on what I imagine would be its Christmas costume and changed its mundane "helping people solve problems we caused" meaning to something more holiday season appropriate, something along the lines of "ignoring the problems we created and being an indifferent and slightly annoying cunt about it".
Thanks again for absolutely not getting anything done to solve my predicament which, again, you originally caused ( support.2k.com/hc/en-us/articles/229789028--PC-Missing-Activation-Code?mobile_site=true ) and a Happy New Year..
-----------------------------------------------------------
So I finally got the Mafia III to work, after paying AGAIN, and... I don't really feel like playing it at all. All the joy has left the building haha... I'll give it a few more days and see if I can re-hype myself on this. What a bunch of cunts...
