I always found the "no shipping to Italy" eBay disclaimers, mostly used by the US sellers from what I noticed, slightly absurd. I posted a ton of packets to Italy over the years and aside from one or two cases where the package was delayed by few weeks because of customs or whatever other reasons, nothing has ever gone missing. Out of the developed countries I actually find the Ozzie PO most unreliable.
Anyway, I have now found myself on the receiving end of the Italian PO trouble. Posted it airmail, no tracking, $140 worth of cool records, to a chap named DARIO SANTORI who lives in CINISELLO B., (MI). 3 weeks and a few angry messages later Dario claims the package has not yet been delivered.
Question to the Italians: What are the chances this is the post office fuck up vs. the Dario bloke ripping me off?
Have there really been things going missing in the post that you have heard of? Because I haven't. This is now on the verge of the paypal claim so I only want to know what are the chances of me losing money, time and records to the post office fuck up, which would be easier on me, vs. me giving Dario early Christmas present that's more expensive than what I will get for my own kid.

The package 99% will arrive, I waited 3 weeks for a package from Germany without tracking. This is the key word : without tracking is totally unsafe, just because the pack could be already delivered but you'll never know, our post man put the package outside the door, if nobody is at home, and could easily be stolen yet. More : actually there's some problems due to the bad administration by the "ps high floors" , in few months many things are changed and employers are pretty angry.. That said, I haven't lost a record in about 10 years, good chance that package takes more than a month to be delivered.

I am positive that the package at the end will arrive. I always receive my packages, and people always receive what I send, but sometimes, for no apparent reason, mail takes extra time to be received...maybe the custom blocks the package to inspect it, ot they just are lazy in delivering it. But this is not the rule, this is the exception. So I'm positive that at the end he will receive it. 3 weeks is a normal delivery time for a package from Japan to Italy. Please keep us posted on this

Dario is from youth crew records and played in these bands(to name a few): Fumbles in life, half my time, Safe
He is a really nice guy, but I would have had also a paypal claim if I did not knew him, when he bought stuff several times through discogs, but 1 package got lost was never received.
It happened to me a few times that a package did not arrive in Italy even when there where track and trace codes(due to different postal switches it was not traceable any more at a certain point), it seems that the things are not going very smoothly when different country postal services has to work with each other.
In my case if the explanation was correct that the dutch postal service(postnl)had given it to a certain german company who delivers to Italy but in Italy there where also some switches between companies why delivers then to the frontdoor etc.

He says the package never arrived. I'll send him refund later on today.
Shitty for me. No records, no money.

That Dario guy is a right fucking wanker. I make it very clear in my discogs profile that the default postage is for air mail and people should let me know if they want to pay extra for tracking. This person obviously lacks any sort of common sense, communication skills or empathy. Fortunately, he's a dying breed as vast majority of the people who are into record collecting are decent blokes who do not force me to go fishing for the word cunt in the pool of my vocabulary every time they open their mouth. Thank the fuck god. Attachments:

On a side note, in order to save a bit of the reputation of the italian postal service (duh...), in these years I have sent from Italy/received packages from all the people writing on this thread: Dobek Poisonxgirls (Japan), Marcus/shrockmw (Usa) and Jeff xfoundxyou (Europe) , and no trouble occurred .... so don't be too worried when shipping from/to Italy, shit happens everywhere, see what happens to that package of Life.Love.Shirts books sent from Germany to RevHQ , and arrived empty...

Always a pleasure paolo ;-) What I find a bit strange though is that Dario seems to have these problems more often, since it happened also with 1 of the 3 packages that I send to him, and if I remembered it correctly he had more problems with some packages not arriving(but I'm not 100% sure about that) When I met him in person and played some shows together he was way different in communication etc. than what I noticed and heard from others how he was with communication through the internet etc. jeff xXx

Well... I've sent heaps to Italy and shit's never gone tits up. Riding on what Jeff's saying though, that it isn't a one off incident, the chances are that: a) someone, presumably a witch of some sort, has put a hex bag in Dario's cupboard in order to prevent mail from ever reaching him b) the postman's family have a century long feud with Dario's family. So whenever the posixyouthxcrew Dario receives a box il postino pops it in a bin and shits on top of it screaming: Finocchio!! Ti metto il cazzo in culo e te lo faccio usciredalla bocca!! c) the universe really is against the poor lad and Italian post office really is shit, despite the clear lack of evidence or d) Dario's a thieving cunt Attachments:

His communication skills are terrible.
If I wouldn't have serious suspicions about a seller, I'd take my loss as a buyer, especially if I chose unregistered shipping myself. Splitting the loss would have been an option too and would already have been a more than nice gesture by the seller. Demanding a full refund is extremely not cool.

Dobek is totally cool nice guy! He sent to me 100$+ package (to Italy) after this issue! I paid for tracking, but if the records will be lost, I will ask a refund to our postal service. They're responsible for the loss, they are in fault, they should pay (but this will never happen) If the seller wants to give a partial refund, that's cool and friendly! Last, if postal service loses records with tracking, PayPal should refund the buyer, and postal service should refund PayPal!!! The seller is not guilty. Just my guess...

After 4+ months of me sending occasional messages to Dario asking about the package, he says it has finally arrived and paid again for the records. I suppose, after all, there's some merit to the "no shipping to Italy" practice on ebay. I noticed even the Japanese tracking page on the post office website mentiones Italy as being shit at delivering packets in a timely manner

Good new dobek, sure the delivery service this time just fuck'd up. But, I've talked with several employees at PO and they said I can't imagine how many packages from Japan, cina, Korea etc..arrived between November and December, and now we have some serious anti terrorism measures that makes the service slower. When I bought your records, I also bought several records from USA, in my hands after 10/15 days, so not bad at all. Other stuff from Japan took 15/20 days usually. Of course sometimes shit happens !

I had the same exact thing happen. I am from the US, I sold a shirt on eBay sent it out and the guy never received it. 4 weeks had gone by, I've waited longer for stuff from Italy but whatever. He waited about a week and opened a dispute, it was at this time I realized it had the wrong customs form for a different package so obviously the Italy post office might have a problem receiving a package with a customs for England, and if they didn't realize maybe he would notice and take advantage of a post office mistake. Either way I'm screwed, he gets his money back. I excepted the loss, he hits me up 2 weeks later says he got it and sent the money back. Never had another problem sending or recieving.

Never had any problems with Italy. But I really hate the UK Royal Mail these last few weeks. All large packages from the UK are delivered by our national mail agency, some goes for letters.
However small packages and letter size packages aren't delivered by our national mail agency, but the UK Royal Mail made a deal with a wide variety of small local companies. So it sometimes takes weeks or they don't arrive at all, plus you have no clue where to complain too. Super annoying.
