I'm flying to Toronto in 2 weeks but also will be going to NY for a couple of days. What is the best place online to look up for hcpunk gigs and also what are some good record stores with good selection of 2nd hand records? Anyone can help? Thanks.

NY record stores are plenty but very very hit or miss (90% miss) in the post eBay age. Most anything worth going to is in Brooklyn. The below are all near by each other in Williamsburg and Bushwick off the L train. Humanhead Vinyl Fantasy Heaven Street Academy Earwax Venues to check out: Saint Vitus Acheron (best punk venue in the city currently closing this month) LIR (le poisson rouge) Music Hall of Williamsburg 538 Johnson House of Vans Webster Hall Knitting Factory The Wick This website gives a good glimpse: www.brooklynvegan.com/category/to-do/

Just been there 2 months ago, pretty much you can skip: -generations (worst than ever, even all ages is better), -academy (both 12th st and williamsburg ) -human head (over priced and what they sell on discogs for decent price is not even available in the store....) -earwax (don`t even bother only current represses,it`s like going to rough trade basicly)
whats worth to check out (maybe): -heaven street (it has a new name and found some good stuff there) -if you have a chance go and check out some record fair but don`t expect anything rare or too much hc/punk records
If you got time and willing to travel far then go to double decker records to allenstown,PA because that`s the really hc record mecca still in my book.
nyc used to be good when i went there in 2011 but all good stores got cleared out/vanished since.

Been longer than 2011 since anything was worth going to unfortunately. But, like any record store there is always a chance. Totally agree about double Decker, you have the best chance there. And to tokee's point, record fairs are the best bet when they are happening. Mike Rep also opened a store slightly upstate called Clockwork Records and he's always getting good punk/HC stuff in but has figured out pricing to a t so you never really get a deal anymore. www.clockworkrecordsny.com/

Thanks everyone, unfortunately, I've been to, I think 8 record stores and it was all crap. Not a single record worth buying. Funny, I always thought that all ages in London was crap when it comes to 2nd hand records but now I think it's pretty good actually.

The difference between NYC in 1999 compared to 2004 and to 2010 is huge. 2004 only the very rare of rare stuff was placed on eBay and 2010 anything slighty rare went straight to eBay.

great city though, been twice in the past 12 months. Only Heaven street really measured up when it came to a great record shop. Although there was nothing really rare or anything there it was very reasonably priced and had an awesome second hand section. I visited acheron three times when i last went (red death/Angel du$t show was killer). Loved that venue. The owner was super cool as well. saint vitus bar is the bomb too. Caught Texas is the reason there before they played the Jon Bunch show.
