Question about the first press, with googling I come accross the number 109 pressed for the clear vinyl, a few times. and also that the first press in total was 500 copies (so including black). I somehow doubt these numbers, because Mike did press colors, but like 500 copies at the time. And thinking that vinyl was hot these days, pressings of 500 were unheard of. even the smaller bands who did their own releases pressed a 1000 minimum. My guess, also thinking of Mike that he pressed 3000 copies at once for several records, that the first press were 3000 copies. 500 on clear.
What do you think....
And what about the story that some colors of these earlier New Age records, were not first presses but came later on...

I am curious about the number of colored copies too. 109 seems low but 500 seems high to me. It doesn't show up that much.
Also the rest of the pressings is such a clusterfuck, tan labels, white label, 4 different inserts (one sided, might be just a fuck up.), several sleeves. Curious if you found something new out Ferry.

i agree with dobek on this one. ive heard the 500 number from the beginning. then out of nowhere the 109 number showed up. thats just too low seeing thats its not really that tough to come by. it is funny that this records pressing history is just so unknown and uncertain. there are so many versions of it, and new ones being discovered every year.

I would go as far as to say that the 109 number could possibly be for the test pressing. I saw too many of those tests change hands in not that long stretch of the time. I would argue that 100 is a lot more reasonable for the test press than the usually accepted 50 figure.

"...first press were 3000 copies. 500 on clear"
I agree with you, Ferry. TP already had the 7" out, which had sold out it's 1st press/1000 probably pretty quickly. So pressing a 1000 LP's would not be a logical choice for a first pressing. New Age was up and running, so probably enough funds to finance 3000 or 3500 LP's.
The clear: 500 sounds pretty close. They pop up about as often as the purple GB/1000, but that is a bigger want for people due to the colour and the band.
Test press: I would put my money on somewhere between 25-50 made. I don't agree with the estimate of a 100 made.
