so this summer i plan to move across country. from the east coast USA to the west coast. i'll be driving...3000 miles +
i have approximately 300 pieces of vinyl. how would you guys move these?
1. shipping them would be super expensive and have me super worried things could get ruined 2. if i use a moving company for all my stuff then same thing, i'd be super worried but also #3... 3. if i bring them in the car with me, in the middle of the summer, i'll be stopping on the way and would be afraid of the vinyl and 90-100 degree + temps in the car melting/warping them
ideas? suggestions?
thanks!

I'd just move them in the car. Put them on the back seat, cover them with something to prevent any damage from direct sunlight, keep the air con on whilst driving to keep the temperature down, and when you stop places be sure to park in the shade. And if you stay overnight somewhere take them indoors with you.

Tough one... What chungking48 says is good advice. Cover with something that really insulates, not just a thin blanket or a towel for instance.
Does your car have airconditioning? How many days will you be driving? How many LP's?

Well insulated: I would think stuff like jackets, a small matras, anything with down in it. Bubblewrap could work as long as the sun doesn't shine directly on it. Mind you, I have no experience in this kind of moving of vinyl.

I think the best thing to cover them with would be a duvet.

I think the best thing to cover them with would be a duvet. You and your "duvets"! That's the second time I've heard you mention one on this board! I wouldn't even know what that is if I hadn't looked it up after the last time you mentioned it!

I moved all my records in those wooden boxes from ikea. They are pretty stable and good to carry. Attachments:

I think the best thing to cover them with would be a duvet. That is the word I was looking for. Hence the "down" remark.

Although the best advice hasn't been mentioned yet (I'm surprised): Sell the best 50 records you own on this board, we are willing to help out...

Big fan of the word duvet. My nan says it all the time.
Keep the records with you Brett. As the other members said keep them out of sunlight and in shade. Maybe A cheap sturdy DJ case with a locking option for your favorite few dozen LP's. I've used the DJ case for moving LP's short distances and they offer sturdy protection. They do vary in price though. I think Regan used my DJ case in his last move too.

When i moved my records (1000+) across the pole and back and forth in europe i just used about 14" x 14" cartons what gives you enough space for protection from every side.make sure to pull the records out of the sleeve to avoid seem splits during transit (daaa) and you gonna be fine.don`t know what kind of car you have but put them somewhere where is no or less direct sunlight and yeah a moving blanket (or duvet innit) can do the trick.it`s all about the protection really (well packed ) and more layer you have less the chance ending up with wrapped/melted/damaged records.

I wonder, what if the topic was like this: "so this summer i plan to move across country. from the east coast USA to the west coast. i'll be driving...3000 miles +
i have a girlfriend and her mother. how would you guys move these? "
Would there be the word Duvet in the answer?....

I moved 1500 records from London to Tokyo. 300 records in a car is the way to go.
