A thread for discussing the actual music of Rev bands. No pressing info, no insert variations, just the discussion of the stuff that comes out when you play your records.
Looking back era Bold might be the most natural, seemless fusion of rock technique and hardcore music out there; seven of the most classy tracks ever committed to wax.
And the flange/phaser effect on the drums on Speak Out is so insane. I've heard the record a million times, but I've decided that's the single production choice that makes the record sound so bizarre. I can't think of any other record that does that with the drums.

I always think that Statue's filter the infection was one of the most underrated great records in Rev's catalog. It was four solid tracks of Fuel/fugazi-esque hardcore with genuine emotion pouring out. I wonder what a full length would have been like. We can only imagine/dream.

Yeah, there is a logical, if sort of disjointed and windy path if you follow justice league-->chain-->statue--> circle storm. I'm far more fascinated by that group of musicians than I probably should be. But the Statue 12" is definitely a banger. I think a full length might have yielded diminishing returns, a'la orange 9mm 1st lp, which isn't bad, but doesn't grab me like their 1st ep.
I should probably include the post Justice League records Roa sang on in that constellation (End on End... And isn't there an Eyelid record our something?). Actually, a big piece of the puzzle I'm missing is that crossoverish(?) Band Curtis sang for before chain, I forget their name. If anyone has a d/l link I'd be greatly appreciative.

Malicious Intent was Curt's previous band, before Chain of Strength. Can't find a link.

there are so many rev bands with incredible music. thats how rev got to be a the top of the game. so i will not look at rev 1-23. to me, when i think of incredible music on rev, elliott and sensefield go to the top of the list. building and false cathedrals are fantastic works of music. (i like the color vinyl versions of them too, haha)

Alex recently replied that there are more unreleased Statue songs. If they will ever see the light of day, I go nuts!

Malicious Intent was Curt's previous band, before Chain of Strength. Can't find a link. Doug Bellows of Circle Storm was also in Malicious Intent. I chatted a lot with him a few months ago. He told me a lot of cool stuff about the band and also about Chain Of Strength. I said he should publish all that stuff. Pretty cool to read. Those MI songs rock although the quality is bad!

Well some might disagree about Slipknot...it's true, it's the weakest of them all. Besides Sense Field, I nominate Into Another, Farside, Statue, CIV, Shades Apart, Quicksand, Nerve Agents, Ignite, Texas Is The Reason, In My Eyes, Speak(714), Better Than A Thousand, Gameface, Where Fear And Weapons Meet, Battery, Fastbreak, By A Thread, BURN, Dag Nasty. I buy every single version of all the reissues of these bands that are released ;-)

The second By A Thread LP is, in my opinion, the best Rev released of the last 15 years. So fucking good, yet it feels like nobody else cares.

Hands down the greatest label ever. Consistently releasing great music that they still put out today. Another gem for me is Kill Holiday's somewhere between the wrong is right. Glad it's had a much needed and long awaited (by me anyway, ha) vinyl repress. Of course the early releases hold a special place in my heart as they were what got me into hardcore properly in the late 80's.

I think Elliott's song in the air is the best record that band ever did, and one of the best Rev ever released.

No one wants to mention Into Another? There's not a single rubbish track on anything they've done.
Saying that I still haven't heard their new record. I need to get on it.
