I used to have #23, numbered in red marker, but I traded it to a kid in Japan many years ago. I definitely remember seeing more than one #23, I think Tim told me once he did a few of them (all in red) as a tribute to Michael Jordan.

something weird happened. recently roger AF offered me a chain crew wich i declined since i cant afford to spend 900 for a record rightnow and alsobecause the chain crew is not a top want right now. he sent me pictures and he had truly number 25. last week there was one on discogs for a pretty decent price that did not make e think a lot about it. after my purchase, i got some proofing pictures and what a surprise, its also a number 25. i contacted brett wich is the new owner of the one fro roger and tod him about it. we shared some pictures and tried to figure out what happened but obviously we both haveno clue. fact s, mine hs pretty thick almost cardbordish flat paper, while brett has the one with the structured paper. also the rpint loks kinda different on some parts and my only explenation is that its because of the different paper. check the x bettwen chain crew. once its pretty cose to chain and then its pretty in the middle. also the green of the pen and handwritings seem to be simillar. i asked tim and he said that it could be that he made bymistake two. i have no other explenation. can yu guys post some close ups of the writings andthe back of yours? any hints/ideas? mine is with the silver background, bretts with the wooden.

Looks like a different handwriting (not by the same person)... Not shure about that. Both 2 are have almost no angle and they look like a reverse Z. Tha same goes with the 5. both are started written from the top right and are fluent writen ending on the lower left curve. Maybe a different pen? But i would say the same hand.

Wow, that's an odd one...All I can say with the "X" being shifted on the cover is that the way the covers were printed, with the green color being on one plate and the black on another, is that that kind of "drift" is natural.

i found a difference between them, theres a green line on the back of the cover top left corner and mine does not have that line. does anyone else that has this have that green line on the top left corner?

similar hand writing, but the pauses are very different. look at the bulb created at the ends. that "hit go hit" method is distinct as well as the angled lettering. it doesnt have the speed of the other one. also the top one almost looks like a 2nd generation photocopy. theres less grey tones. that could be anything causing it and is just an observation. (it could be the camera too)
ive said for many years, the chain crew is sketchy. anyone remember back in the rev board years people were wheeling and dealing those things? then tim was still handing out OG chain crew covers in the past 10 years.

I would say these are different handwritings too. Also, I am missing the yellowish bleeding of the ink on the silver table one.
Mine has the green line you mentioned.
I spot another difference: the direction of the fold of the lyric sheet: upwards or downwards.
Mine is like the one on the silver table.

There's a line close to the chain writing in the insert, right above HAI, in the wooden table pic Looks like a photocopy-shadow..

geoff has been saying this for years. I don't think any of us are surprised by the different sleeves. It's already been documented that there are atleast 3 different types of paper so that could mean different batches which could account for "off center this" or "different line that" etc. And I'm pretty sure (but not 100% sure) that atleast 2 people numbered the inserts - maybe Traci? That would explain different hand writing and MAYBE the mistake of there being two 25's. But that line above the HAI on the insert does look photocopied. I haven't seen that yet on any others so... I don't know.

By no means am I a handwriting specialist but imo these are numbered by two different people. The 25 on the wooden table seems more consistent with the handwriting found on most inserts. The 25 in the aluminum table is more italic in nature I'd say.

This is all just people speculating, which is fine, that what this board does. But maybe ask Tim about it and see what he thinks, probably the best option to get a more solid opinion.

Tim is a super nice guy that is easy to talk to and always seems happy to answer my questions. Unfortunately, he doesn't remember a lot of the details so I try not to pry too hard, respectfully of course.

I contacted him and he said that he does not remember. It could be that he made a mistake and did the 25 twice. Also he thinks that its his handwritings or Tracys. I sent him some puctures yesterday and asked if they are both OG or if there might be a copie or so but all i got back was a "thumbs up" emoj.
And i don't wanna bug him to much about it.

Mmmh, many numbered 23, a couple of 25, seems that is not anymore #/100... Confusing

I've decided to try to collect some of these differences for fun and also for our documentation. In the pics of the two #25's there are some clear differences in sleeve layout. The missing green bar, the placement of the X and so forth. This made me curious as to the authenticity of some of these sleeves that I've seen. I searched for pics on the internet and on instagram and kept seeing both of these over and over. Everyone says that there's is legit but there are some people who you know definitely have legit sleeves and some of these still had these little differences. So I decided to ask Tim McMahon. He's a very nice guy and very easy to talk to. He's answered some of my questions in the past and has been very helpful. At the risk of harrassing him, I sent him these pics and he saw the differences and had never seen them or taken notice of them before. He then told me that he still had quite a few sleeves still in his possession as well as some inserts that he kept for various reasons. Much to my surprise he eagerly dug all of them out and started sending me some pics. Right away way the first thing we noticed was that he still had, in his possession, both sleeve designs that I have pictured above. Legitimacy confirmed, at least in terms of design. That's no to say that there aren't fakes out there but for the purposes of this discussion these layout differences can be explained simply by there being different batches that were made in different printing runs. Tim told me that a friend of his made all of these for free in his printing class using all kinds of different supplies and card stocks. Small changes must've been made inadvertently here or there. So now I had even more questions. Why extra numbered inserts without records if there are only supposed to be 100 of these sold at the show? We all know the "legend" that each band member got 100 of these rejected mixes and Chris Bratton sold his to Tim and thus the Chain X Crew was born to be sold at one show. I had always thought that 100 records is quite a bit and probably didn't sell out at the show so of course he would have extras. But his extras don't have records! Tim explained to me that when he first got the vinyl from Chris that he first gave away quite a few of them before even making the sleeves and inserts so there never were 100 of these to be sold at the show. There must be more than 100 sleeves because he showed me a few that were run as "tests" one of which that was bright blue and we know about the purple ones. Also, there must be more than 100 inserts because we've already seen 2 #25's (Tim and Traci could've have mistakenly numbered two the same) and then there's the multiple 23's. He showed me a handful that he still had and NONE OF THOSE NUMBERS are accounted for on our registry list so that's pretty cool. In addition to sleeves and inserts are the stationary letterhead / ads that came with a lot of them. Chris gave Tim those ads to stuff inside of them at the show. Tim still has a whole bunch of those too. Tim said it would be ok for me to tell all of you that if anyone is interested in any of his spare sleeves, inserts or ads feel free to hit him up on IG or ask me and I'll contact him for you. Pretty cool. I think that about covers it. Thanks for reading.

awesome. i'm psyched to have gotten one and directly from Tim himself. knowing he has a bunch of the #'s that are blank on our list is good to know. Won't be wondering where to track those down!
TTD clear & silver sleeve will complete my chain collection...someday
