Chain Crew

There's a registry for chung king and floorpunch on gold. I figured it's time for a chain crew registry. I've contacted a few of you via instagram but how about everyone post what # you have and that would help kick start this thing. Especially since a lot of instagram accounts don't use real names.

this is going to be a bad idea. we might find out theres way more than a 100 of them out there. tim seems to give out more than a couple covers a year.

Again, chain crew = reject vinyl, cover, and numbered insert. Only 3/3 = true Chain Crew, Anything less would be uncivilized.

COULD one conceivably get one of these supposedly super common sleeves, track down a spare reject vinyl (neither of which are nearly as easy/cheap as they're made out to be), then xerox an insert (from someone willing to make a counterfeit? Let's pretend that's reasonable), white out the number and write in a new number with the same kind of pen used to number the original inserts? Uh, sure, but anyone willing to go to those lengths to keep one for themselves wouldn't want a counterfeit, and anyone with the kind of knowledge/connections to frankenstein something like that together wouldn't risk their reputation for what? $700, $800?

Realistically, there are 100 actual Chain Crews, then a handful of people who think they have a Chain Crew, but really have the Chain Crew sleeve and a Mindpower 7" or something, with no insert.

this is true, thats what a chain crew is comprised of. yes, there were an original number (+/- 100) that were made. wont contradict that. its a fact

unfortunately we all know hardcore kids never play by the rules. a record that is valued that high always gets messed with. especially when there are so many extra covers out there, then inserts have been made and so on. sadly it happens, and over 20 years later covers are being given out. i know for a fact there are chain crews out there, with inserts, that are not from the original 100. hardcore kids are masters of crafty, but really the chain crew was just a craft project not made by the band.

There are about 15 results on how's your edge swap if you search Chain crew. Out of curiosity i checked the numbers and they're all unique. There are a few listed without a number.

I checked HYE. I have accounted for 22 of them. Not counting the HYE listings without a number.

My 2 copies (I just traded one away) are/were unique numbers too.

I must say the numbers are hard to read sometimes. The 1 looks like a 7 for instance.

I have one, but without an insert. It's a real deal cover with a rejected press record. I picked it up in 92/93 from some kid selling his collection at a show in NJ for ~$6.

Hmmm, mine looks different.

That would be a "77" in my view...

The writing on mine has a right slant, while most numbers I have seen have a left slant. Could of course be the handwriting of different persons, although it would seem that numbering 100 inserts could easily be done by one person.

Now I'm curious to see how other early numbers look like... Dave Walling? Dobek? ;-)

My 16 is the same as the number 10 above.
It has 1 without the "hook"

Then again, when I think of it, I sometimes write 1s with hooks and sometimes without, depending on the number, or whatever I feel like. My handwriting is not consistent if I went by 1s only. So the same person could have easily written that number 11 or 77 as the 10 and 16

I've just noticed another thing:
The #10 above has thick black ink if you look at the visible letters HAIN, also the white part of the paper is just white.
When you look at the #11 the visible HAI is very different, looks as if the copier was lower on toner. The black is thinner and dotted with white. Also the white part of the insert is dotted with, I don't know what to call it? a "photocopy artefact"??
The black dots on the paper you get when you make copies of copies of copies.
Then again it could be that early 100 inserts were blacker and the later 100 the toner started to thin out.
Whatever the case is my insert is consistent with #10

Just ask Tim mcMahon because he was the one who did all of them (or mostly).regarding the numbers in the state they don`t use the hook on 1 it`s just a simple line.I learned this at my local post office because they were confused with my "european" numbering and always asked me is that a 7 or 1.
