Its still a terrible record. Im a completest jerk like any good collector, but $6,000 for a miserable recorded slab o wax is insane. Maybe im just still bitter about passing one up in 1993 because $140 was "waayyy too much for a fucking Judge record"
Ah regrets.

So what is the usual average price of one of these anyway? Is the $6,000+ Ebay winning bid way out of the usual for this? They usually get sold in private. I'm thinking I'll never get one now - if this new price sets a precedent.

I heard some stories of private deals around 4500-4800 euro, so 6.6k dollar seems to be the standard.

The guy who run double decker records told me that he sold his one for $4000 2 years ago and on Donald was claiming the same amount for his one on HYE if you want to buy his copy.(if i`m correct, but Donald deleted this comment since i last checked his list)

There is one for sale on this board as well, right now.
If I would be selling one, I'd honestly not know what the "best" way to sell it would be. Ebay? Discogs? Forum? Instagram? All of 'em? I am so lucky I don't own one.

It seems weird offering a record like that up to just anyone, like on ebay/discogs. I would have to know someone--at least via reputation--to hand mine over to them. But it's not like I plan on giving mine up any time soon.

I always avoided hunting for a copy because I thought it sounded like shit. I had a boot and that was enough. I'd love to own one now though but seriously $6000.00 is just too insane to spend on a bit of plastic. Maybe if I won the lottery...

I still like it better than BID. But hey thats maybe only me! I am also the guy that prefers a shitty low produced 7" by some unknown band than the 14th terror/bane/soia/younameitband. A hardcore record that doesnt sound like its recorded in a garbage can is not a hardcore record. To me BID is overproduced and too metallic for 89. The chung king is better! Always.

I think the "plus shipping" is kinda funny... I think maybe if I got $6K for a record I might just overlook the $2.50-$8 for shipping, but that's just me.

Wait come to think of it would you really just ship a $6000 dollar record? That would really make me nervous. mostly if I were the buyer! Yes, why not? You can make it safer by using EMS, or sending registered. If you put Insurance on it, you get covered if it's lost or damaged. But as soon as you insure it (for $6000), the tax officers will be all over it. Depending on where you live, you pay for the extra security you bought. In my country that's around an extra 24%.

Sammy sent me his CK via EMS with $10 value on the customs. Nelson sent me a couple of MT and other Dischord tests with $10 on the customs as well. Fortunately I never run into any postal fuck ups.
Edit: The low value was to avoid me paying import taxes. Fortunately the drunk forklift drivers were on holidays that week. Some of you know what I'm talking about.

So - the person selling the Chung King on ebay, otlevel7, I got in touch with him. Had to come here to share my experience and see what y'all think.
FYI: I emailed him through Discogs as I have legitimately been looking for a Chung King for years. I was prepared to make a substantial offer depending on what he replied back to me. Based on my emails with him, no way would I go through with the sale.
MY MESSAGE:
"Howdy - these were all hand-numbered. What number is this one?"
HIS REPLY:
"Are you making an offer? Why does it matter what number it is?"
MY REPLY:
The simple answer is that if you are selling an lp for $6,000 there will be a lot of things that matter about that will seem trivial to you.
The long answer is that the numbering on this specific record is actually *very* important. Every single number from 1 - 100 is documented and it is noted who the owners are on a file at Revelation Records, the label that issued this. I was strongly thinking of putting in a bid on this record, as it is a *huge* collectors item.
But - if you claim to own this, and don't understand the significance of the individual numbering, I doubt you actually own the actual record you are claiming to sell.
Thanks for the reply. I guess my search for a Chung King continues.....
HIS REPLY:
Seriously? You honestly think that I would list this record and not own it? You honestly think that I don't understand what a collector's item this is? I worked for Revelation for 8 years, my old roommate is the one who started that list to which I specifically asked that my name not be on. I understand it's place as hc collectable. It's number would really be the difference maker for you whether or not to make an offer? Is there one number that's better than another? OK, well good luck on your search I guess.
SO
Yes, I'm a serious record collector. And yes, I may have come off a bit snobby, but let's look at reality for a bit: we're talking about spending around $6,000 on a single fucking vinyl record. Any question about this lp posed to the so-called seller - no matter how insignificant - should be answered promptly and professionally. SIX GRAND we're talking about.
Anyway, just wanted to let ya'll know how my talk with this person went. I think it's relevant to this board.

Sounds like a jerk answer. If you're possibly going to buy a 5K or 6K record, I think a seller should give you every detail you would like to know and as many pictures as you want. What reason would they have not to tell you? I would want to know what number it is too. Also, what seriously would matter, is to see if this is a 1-100 or a 101-110 numbered copy.

As a potential buyer, I don't think your approach was very friendly. My 2c... Yeah, I agree. I could have been a lot nicer too. Should have waited a day to reply to him, but his first reply just took me off guard when talking about a $6,000 purchase. I *immediately* doubted he actually had one. Also, keep in mind this is discogs user with a rating of "0" and only 1 lp listed for sale.

Isn't a 1442 feedback and 100% ebay account something to "keep in mind"? Ebay member since 1998...
If you doubt the integrity of a seller, do some research on the web, or ask questions to become confident that the item/seller is legit.

As a potential buyer, I don't think your approach was very friendly. My 2c... i agree with this. you should know who you are dealing with. if someone approached me like he was schooling about a record i would be annoyed. i dont think i would be as annoyed as dave was, but i wouldnt be pleased. you should do a little research ahead of time and be friendly right from the start. also, posting the conversation with the intention of dragging his name through the mud is lame. yes, i respect dave greatly. as a person and a record nerd.
