comes to an end... How does it feel when record collecting comes to an end for someone? In the last months I totally lost interest in all these re-re-re-re-presses of records (I guess I`m the only one who found that it sucks that Rev. started with these tons of re-presses of their classics... ) and there are just a few records on my want-list I really want, but these are impossible to get (Warzone 1st press test, CK test, MT tests). So I feel that "the end is near" Anyone else ? Don`t get me wrong: I still love HC, but when it comes to collectors stuff then I don`t become really nervous anymore... Cheers

I totally agree! I somehow want the new colors too but theres still so much early stuff i need that i dont buy any new ones. I think its cool for people who dont wanna spend a hundrets for the early presses. But to us its kinda frustrating. Finally u got them all and then they produce ne colors.
I had that before that i totally lost interest in collecting records. I sold a lot back then. But now it hit back harder! I m totally addicted in searching vinyls for a reasonable price.

I quit. Finally made the decision to sell everything off last year.
I guess it comes down to changing my priorities. The wife. The kids. The house. Things just changed for me. I still love to flip through the stacks. And some stuff has been harder to part with than others. But my collecting habits have changed.
Honestly, I only follow this board because I live vicariously through you guys. And I love to see the pics of the truly rare items.
The crazy thing is I still follow hardcore and all the new bands. Now its just mp3’s instead of vinyl.
Can’t take it with you.

its kind of a natural progression. if it didnt happen, how would people get a hold of the rare records? most of us have been in it long enough to see collectors come and go (barfighter). then they come back (robbie redcheeks x2). i think its half the fun of collecting is the hunt.
if people didnt sell their records collecting would get real boring, real fast. if it wasnt for duane some, i wouldnt have some of my rev tests. and hopefully someday those tests will make someone else as happy as they have for me.

I aggree Geoff. But the "end" of collecting is not = selling all my stuff. I really love most of my records, it' s more a thing of not hunting for rare records anymore. I'm not interested in selling records too fast and want them back a short time later. It's still always a great feeling when I open the doors of my closet and rummage in my little vault

i feel like im getting closer to "completion". im not an obsessive collector like some of you guys getting variations and various colours recent or not. theres no doubt the hunt is awesome.
i buy demos, zines/flyers/shirts so chances are there will always be something else out there, but i really feel like im getting closer to the stuff that i truly need/want.

You know, i just love hunting them. Obce there in my hand i check them, make some puctures and then the disapear in my collection until a bired sunday or when my gf is studying to take them out put them in order sn snap some puctures. I will never give away my rev, dischord, x claim stuff but i was thinking about to sell all the rest. I manly just go after my wantlist. Not to many records there but beside records my musclecar is a big hobby and takes a lot of cash too. So my record budged shrunk more than half comparef to before. A yeah my gf doesnt care about my records. She gets annoyied when i tell her "check this out. This is the third press of blahbla" and she complains about why i buy them for lots of cash and when i finally get them i just put them away without playing. Doesnt make sense to her. Well if i read it like that, to me neather

I understand your feelings Dan, in the last years I have sold at least 300 records and bought probably only 40-50, I haven't ordered any of the 2012 Rev represses and in general I feel I don't need 700+ records in my collection, I want to own only 250-300 selected vinyls, the ones that really will be almost impossible to give away (CK, PX, YOT, UC, MT etc.), and also keep a good bunch of old 80's zines. If my kids won't be into HC, I plan to sell all my records on my retirement, to live the happy life of an old man and give those records to some new kid. But at the end I still can't see the day when I quit record collecting, there's always something cool to be on the hunt for...even though my want list is made of crazy rare stuff that I will never own.

i go through different phases. there have been times were i sold a great deal of my collection, only to start buying records again.
the last couple of months i've been on a musical journey, discovering a lot of great old records. so yeah i made a lot of purchases. which also made me decide to get rid of a lot of records that i don't really play. i've sold versions of records that are very dear to me, but in the end i know that i don't have to own a zillion different pressings of one release. last week i sold a turning point record, and although it did hurt a little bit it also gave me joy to pass it on to an enthusiastic kid. with the money i bought 10 jazz records and have been listening to them all week. good music is great.

It's come as an end for me a couple of times. I originally started collecting in late 80s/early 90s. Mostly rev and early SXE stuff. Then I got ripped off on a huge trade (lost a lot of my collection) and sold the rest in college (or traded for SW toys which I was also collecting) but was mostly out of hardcore at that point (I kept my GB LP on purple but can't find it for the life of me...). Then I got back into hardcore about 4-5 years ago and started buying up all the old records I once had and amassed another huge rev collection. But then I got an enormous tax bill and had to sell most of it all over again. Now I focus strictly on Quicksand stuff (and Walter-related) stuff since they're my favorite band. So - I don't buy much anymore but still have stuff to look for.
