I don't know if I'm a bit off target here, but it seems to me that collectors are more into collecting the Revelation versions of Judge NYC than the original pressing on Schism these days. I would have made this into a poll, but I don't know how.....

I am one who only has the Schism version... to me the Judge 7" is a Schism record, can't get into the Rev repress

It seems the blue REV sells for more than the 1st Schism press which I think is insane.

Saying that any other Schism version sells for more than any other REV one So to put it in order of what gets the highest bids:
1. REV 1st press on blue 2. Schism 1st press 3. Schism 2nd and 3rd press 4. REV 1st press on black 5. REV pressings with yellow cover and colour inserts (purple and yellow) 6. REV pressings with yellow cover and white inserts (these are the most common)
Recently people also became aware of the 33/45 pressing with new and old matrix misspress. I imagine lots of those got sold unknowingly in past but once they are advertised in the auction as "rare misspress" etc they have potential of generating high bids as well and it's been documented in few recent auctions.

Thanks for clearing that one up Dobek, so I was a little off, it's just the colour vinyl on Rev... imagine if Schism had done a limited colour press...that would cause a frenzy. Are there any labels around now that only press on black vinyl?

I don't think all but I think most of the MY WAR releases were on black only and usually out of 500 or so. Then again they're no longer "around now" but that's just about the only label that comes to mind when you say "black only"

they haven't been around for a long time, but other than the Absolution 7" on red, Combined Effort pressed only black vinyl.

Yeah, I know there was loads of labels in the past that didn't press colour vinyl but as I suspected there probably isn't even one label that does black vinyl releases exclusively, I think it's a shame really, collectable versions of older records were mistakes/anomalies where as now they are manufactured. I'm not saying its a bad thing, it just makes it a bit less special, for me at least...

it's depending. i'm not into zillion different colors for a band that barely sells 500 records, but i love it when bands or labels take the time and effort to do something special. this morning i had a package with some Denovali Records and they always use awesome quality cardboard + paper sorts and have the vinyl perfectly match the artwork and often do up to 3 variants.

I truly and honestly miss the times when there was ONE regular press and ONE limited press + test press. This whole out 7 out 35 out of 78 out of 124 out of 337 out of whatever number with million different covers/versions for one release (ie: Have Heart on Jeff's label) is getting a little out of hand. I know that this is what sells the records, ie: you'll definitely sell a lot more with more producing many variants but at the same time it is what puts me off record collecting lately. I would be more than happy to collect all 4 pressings of Filler 7" (if I didn't have them already) but I would not put myself though the effort required to obtain all the pressings of Have Heart for example. There are just too many variants making their releases pretty much NON collectible. Someone should set up a poll for this. Where's the line you do not cross? haha
