www.factmag.com/2015/05/15/judge-chung-king-can-suck-it-most-expensive-discogs-purchase/Yeah so it was me. I had the cash. I can't see why everyone is getting so worked up over it. The next time one of these chumps takes a expensive holiday maybe I should lecture them about how they spend their money. It is an insane amount to pay but damnit it's a CK. This is what seperates the men from the boys with serious record collecting. The odd thing about getting it is that it feels like a huge weight off my shoulders. I don't feel compelled as much to buy records anymore. Of course I still have some major wants but overall I feel I've finally put the brakes on this record collecting mallarkey.

Yeah, six grand is the going rate. Its not like you're going to find one cheap on a flea market. I own one, quest over. That's all that counts.

People are always quick to judge collectors based on the money they spend. Whenever I mention that I collect records, people always ask how many i have got. When I say that I have about 4000 records, the next question is always about the value. It's usually a question framed like a statement, e.g. 'I bet they're worth a lot!'. I always say 'dunno' because to me it's irrelevant. I don't collect stuff because of it's value and I don't really care about the value. I don't think any collector of anything collects because of monetary value. Collectors collect because they love the thing that they collect. But the money is all that non-collectors are interested in, and it is the only thing that impresses or shocks them. They are never impressed by numbers, which is actually the most impressive bit, as I sometimes mention that I own records of which there are only like 10 copies in the world. All they ask is 'how much is that worth then?'. And if you tell them, and they are impressed because it is a big number, the next question is always 'why don't you sell it?'. Such a dumb question. I mean, if I wanted to sell it and not own it then I wouldn't have bought it in the first place.
Anyway, the conclusion is simply that people love to judge other people based on how they spend their money. Yet everyone spends money on useless & pointless shit. The only time it would matter would be if you had a family and you were spending money on records rather than putting food on the table for your kids. But when you have money in the bank and no real responsibilities it doesn't matter at all.
Pretty cool that you got famous though and the whole world was talking about you though!

Thats great to see you guys think the same way and the questions you get are always the same.
Its like that. I rather overpay a record than buy a brand new car. Never did and never will buy a brand new car. If you have the money, then do with it what ever you want. Your money, you spend it.
What bugs me the most is that people in hardcore start judging about it. Where's the 'live and let live' attitude gone?
I mean. Lets congratulate takemeaway69 for beeing able to buy a Chung King! Great score buddy. Sammy wrote on mine 'no apologies' and i never had because i spent 2.5k on a record back then!

Thanks Chris. I don't regret it at all. Maybe if I'd taken a loan and was living on the breadline but as I said I've got some savings in the bank and they're there to spend every now and again. Was amusing on the sorry state forum as some guy said that whoever spent that much on a record was a waste of oxygen. I'd definitely trade for his life if all he's got to worry about is how someone else spends their hard earned money.

Oh, and let's please not forget the hyper elitist core man that will throw shade at your purchase because he got his Chung King handed to him from Porcell personally and only paid $3 for it or some shit.
Someone is always going to piss on your happiness. Fuck them.

One thing I learnt a few years ago is to stay away from forums. Well, apart from this one. People say rude, ignorant and hurtful stuff without thinking. It's no different to a schoolyard bully, except people use the Internet to do it safely and anonymously from the safety of their bedrooms. Seriously though, some dude saying that whoever bought a record is a wage of oxygen... Wow. The root cause of all of this money judgement is just jealousy. People who make these kind of comments are clearly not in a position to experience what life is like with good money so they're judging from their own position, which is utterly ridiculous. I guess it would be like me trying to suggest that some Saudi oil billionaire should be put to death for buying a diamond encrusted Rolls Royce when he could just as easily get where he wants to go in a fucking nissan micra. People are jealous and stupid it would seem. Although, having said that, all the people who own a Chung King seem to be pleasant and balanced individuals )

Well Marcus someone had just started a thread about that article on there. As you said it seemed to be more about jealousy than anything. Facebook groups were in discussion about it too. One twit even said whoever bought it must have been a hipster. That made me giggle.

I'm sure you don't mean it that way, but that statement could be construed as really elitist.

A position of 'good money' is relative anyways.

Money is fuckin dumb and easy to get. Records are cool, and sometimes very hard to get. Trading lots of money for records is the biggest no brainer out there.
