I bought a pretty expensive record going on a couple months now and the seller won’t give me a date or a customs number in when it was mailed only that he said he mailed it as a letter. I just don’t see how someone would mail an exspensive record as a letter.

I have already sent some records with Deutsche Post as Maxi letter to the USA, registered with tracking number. The shipping took a maximum of 14 days and everything ran smoothly.

You can use a regular cardboard LP mailer, but the shipping option is called letter (Maxibrief International is the official name if I’m not mistaken). It’s way cheaper than sending an LP as a parcel. Have done this before and it always worked fine. Usually you can add insurance and tracking for a few bucks. If you don’t add tracking, however, there’s no way of following up on the record.

Ok I’m assuming this person just mailed it without tracking just to save themselve some money and must have reacently mailed it if that since this person won’t give me a date it was mailed if it’s even mailed.

Just checked, it’s called Großbrief International (for future reference). I’ll never understand how people can skimp on tracking. That option is 2,50€ extra. Money well spent in my opinion, especially when it comes to records that are expensive. It’s a means of protection for both sides. Anyway, I hope you’ll get your record.
