Hey guys,
Has anyone thought about making a "where are they?" for the Youth Of Today Break Down The Walls wishingwell colored pressings? I would like to see if there is more out there then speculated. I have both colors in Texas and I haven't heard of any others around me. Anyone else thought of this?

What I want would do is take a look at HYE swap.
Find a few equal rare records from that era of which the total amount pressed is know and count them.
Let's say a random rare record 10 are on HYE and 500 are made. The rate would be 50.
So if there are 3 copies on BTDW on red, would make 150 copies on red in real life.
Nowhere near scientific but it might give an indication.

Nowhere near scientific but it might give an indication. This can be a pretty good estimation. Especially if you stay close to the YOT family tree: GB on purple Judge on green etc. You could pick 10 different records, and get an average rate of those 10, and use that. Or pick a record with similiar rarity, for instance the Turning Point 7" on red, of which 200 were made.

I don't think this is really feasible since they are not numbered. In the time it would take to put something together, copies could change hands and you wouldn't know what was what. It may be relatively easy to put a list together, but it would be too difficult to maintain.
The list I am interested in creating would be a complete 'where are they?' list of ALL Rev test pressings.

there are so many lists we could create. there should be a whole database of lists and anyone who has something can enter their info
anything numbered
warzone aborted press (is it numbered? i dont think so) soia 1st/2nd press gb #/102 chain crew (which i started to make a list but have lost the info by now)
anything else 'rev' and numbered?

But I think it would be slightly easier to compile 'complete' lists for a lot of them in the first place when there are only 4-8 copies of the majority.

That's easy - some dude's house in Maastricht. That is funny! As long as they think you live in Maastricht Ferry, your tests are safe ;-) But I know a few more guys here who have a bunch of REV tests haha.

I think theres some folklore attached to that(- copies being left outside to melt)but doesn't seem that believable to me..maybe one copy in one shop this actually happened..the label/band would have had no problem selling them all at that time..WISHING WELL sold some via mailorder some colored copies went direct to shops, again by mailorder or some distributers got ahold of some..YOT got some and lost some...seems the numbers that are out there are speculative at the moment, so perhaps a list of current owners would give an indication at least..bet theres more than 50 copies owned by people on this board alone. Did pat Dubar confirm 150 were made of each?

Great question, I love owning these records so much I really do hope that there is in fact only 50 ( or so ) of each in existence.

There are 40 aborted WZ, or closer to 50, there are 47 numbered YOT SOME out there. These are CONFIRMED numbers of records in the vicinity of 50. How many of those did you see vs both blue and red BDTW lps? I think the number 50 can once and for all be shelved under the urban myth section. If you have enough cash they're out there. At least couple of times a year there's one for sale. Either colour. I had 4 at one point. Rare and expensive but not super rare. Definitely not out of 50 rare I think.

150 red 150 blue, this is the press info. I think it's right, also I think the story behind that record is not true. I have both. Hunting the blue one for years, 3 popped up this year In few months. 3 red in 2015. Personally I don't mind if 50 or 150 the layout is awesome and free at last is the last song...just perfect!! Anyway,Put out a list together would be interesting.

They are still on my radar but everytime i see them pop up, i am out of cash. Story of my life!
What i guess is, that there might be at least 100 available. Dont think that the band got all the records for sale and wishing well didn't keept any for their mailorders. I heard from several guys that they got them through the mailorder.

If there were 150 of each colour it seems likely that most or all of the 150 are still around today. Now I don't mean to sidetrack but someone please come up with an interesting and plausible story as to what happened to the 3rd pressing of the Straight Ahead 12" haha To those who don't know, the story goes: Duane ordered 500 of the 3rd press (identical to the 2nd but for the inversed labels), however when the records arrived from the pressing plant he didn't have money to pay for them so he kept something like 10 copies and sent the rest back to be destroyed. Judging from how often these pop up though, I'd imagine that most/all somehow got into circulation.

perhaps the criminals who got YOTs copies of BDTW transported all thir stolen copies across to the west coast..to let them melt! yeah definetly afew urban myths here.. re;straight ahead, unless you were a major label or something,I always thought beyond the test pressing stage you were stuck with whatever a pressing plant sentout...I am probably wrong here though as I'm sure there are afew people on here who have released records...

Now I don't mean to sidetrack but someone please come up with an interesting and plausible story as to what happened to the 3rd pressing of the Straight Ahead 12" haha Discmakers (the plant that pressed them) dumped them off on a distributor. Keep in mind these were retail-ready records (assembled, shrink wrapped, etc) so there's no way a business is going to destroy or throw away hundreds/thousands of dollars worth of salable merchandise just because the customer can't pay for it. A couple friends of mine ordered copies back in the day (not sure from who, but it wasn't directly from Some/Duane) and both received the third press version, which would certainly validate that scenario. I talked to Duane about this recently and he came to the same conclusion. Also re: BDTW, my blue copy was purchased new from Rhymes Records in New Haven, as were copies owned by a couple other people I know, so they definitely made it into the hands of distributors and not just the band. I also know someone who bought one at a YOT show in Albany, so they must have sold some copies before the alleged theft occurred.
