Ok, so this ain't on Rev, but in the world of record collecting, this is pretty big news. A little background - the first pressing copies of 'The White Album' were numbered. Ringo Starr is now selling number 0000001 via a Beverly Hills auction house. From Julien's Auctions: It has been widely known among collectors that the four members of the Beatles kept numbers 1 through 4, but it was not commonly known that Starr was given the No.0000001 album. Starr has stated that he kept this album in a bank vault in London for over 35 years. Up to this time the lowest numbered UK first mono pressing album to come to market is No.0000005, which sold in 2008 for just under $30,000. This No.0000001 UK first mono pressing owned by a member of the Beatles is the lowest and most desirable copy that will ever become available. Here's a link to the auction house and item page. Current bid is $100k. Not sure how long remains or when it closes. Pretty cool though. www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/163/lot/71120/

"The top load sleeve is in near mint minus condition and would be near mint if not for the bumped upper right front gatefold corner"
Crazy that record collectors were dealing with the same problems back then, ha.

The White Album is probably the best rock LP ever There's no way the best rock album has at least three straight up awful songs (Rev no.9, obli-di, back in the ussr). There might be a decent album buried in all that filler, but it's hardly worth the effort. I know the whole thing gets passed off as arty, but I think the band just didn't care enough to edit down their ideas to a cohesive album...or title it... Or think of decent cover art. If you had gone with Revolver or Rubber Soul I wouldn't have said anything, I have this inexplicable contempt for the white album, though.

Crikey, that is insane. I love the first Wu album too but they went pretty wack after a bit.

Somewhere in 1980...
Ringo's Wife: "Honey, where are ya? Dinner's ready"
Ringo, distracted: "Just putting the White album in the safe." [bumps upper right front gatefold corner]
Ringo: "Blimey."

about 15 years ago there was a guy at my local boot sale always selling stuff...said he knew the beatles..I of course didn't believe him an would pretty much ignore him.. later it turns out he had a very rare copy of the white album..cant remember the exact number but under 30 anyway..apparently he was a tailor to the beatles an had photos to prove it..i don't know what happened to that lp but it became folklore among some record dealers I know but for really rare..theres someone I know of and hes worked in record shops since the mid-70's and he has a sealed A&M god save the queen(probably with promo letters) given to him by a sales rep in 1977 hes kept it unopened so far(god knows how id have opened it immediately!) but its part of his pension plan now..

As far as I know no A&M God Save The Queen singles were ever sealed. They were just popped into the company sleeves. But I might be wrong. Would kill to have that record.

its sealed inside a envelope(not shrinkwrap) I will ask him when I see him next I imagine theres a sticker or typed confirmation of whats inside on the envelope and i imagine he will have to get it x-rayed when he sells it! id never heard of this before but I expect afew promos like this went out with sales reps for A&M (he worked at a virgin record shop then ironically the pistols would rerelease that record on that label about a month later) he said the sales bloke wanted it back the following week!.

These were packed in cardboard mailers (and labeled). Google for pictures to see some with the (opened) cardboard packaging, more pics on popsike.com. I'm sure Dobek knows this... :-)

I think the brown cardboard mailer was part of a later batch they found at A&M an gave to employees when they retired these were sent out circa late 90s(not sure about the exact time but its well documented) still a very rare original record of course but a cardboard mailer from around 1997 not too exciting.
as far as I know a unopened A&M promo package from 1977 has never sold -online anyway

Best I can do Pistols wise is the factory sealed, unopened 1978 NMTB picture disk. At one point I had a opened one as well so I kept this one sealed and it just stayed like that. I do have the 1977 lp/poster/7" 1st press but I think the sealed picture disk is more interesting

I am betting you can get a 100-125 bucks for the picture disc.

the lp/7"/poster is hard to find..but its still having the stickered shrink wrap with it- which is what everyone wants. the collecting scene(&prices) around the pistols is mad now anyway..a friend got about 1000 pounds for a tatty poster last year
funny story about the son of Malcom maclaren, he's supposed to be burning his entire punk collection in November..as this marks 40 years of punk in the uk.. publicity stunt?
