hello everyone, i heard a very alarming story about people in china making knock-offs of rev vinyl that are impossible to tell the difference from the originals. also heard people in china are making knock-offs of just about everything they know is valuable nowadays.
has anyone else heard anything about this?
if this shit is true, i think i'll go vomit in the nearest toilet...

You've got some more proof? Or is it just hearsay? I don't even think there is a pressing plant in China. I do know of a pressing plant in Germany that did low run pressings for individuals and didn't ask too much questions. This resulted in someone creating a few copies of Nofx The Decline on clear vinyl and drama in the Nofx collectors world started. www.fatwreckwiki.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=6855

I haven't heard this, but I don't believe it anyway.
"knock-offs of rev vinyl that are impossible to tell the difference from the originals"
In my mind this would be pretty much impossible to do. It would only be worth the effort for the super expensive records, and I think that any fakes would contain subtle differences that record collectors would notice, understand and detect, making the 'fake' obvious. Just things like getting the vinyl to be the exact same color and the matrix to be exactly the same would be a challenge in itself, let alone the labels, paper types, etc. Plus even if they could do it, people would wise up pretty quickly if several copies of rare variants suddenly appeared for sale. I'm sure that if 'people in china' were to start manufacturing rare stuff, there would be a lot more valuable and high demand products that would put their resources into than records that are in demand with a few hundred people worldwide.
The best boot I have ever seen is a boot of the SOIA 7" which looks and feels exactly like the Rev pressing... except they used super flimsy vinyl, and the matrix is wrong. It's always possible to tell. Always.

i heard it from a good dude who has collected hardcore/punk records for a very long time and i've actually heard it pop up in vinyl discussions here and there quite a bit over the past couple years. i live not very far from china town, nyc, where they sell just about everything people want in the pop culture world. it's all fake and very good fake shit. you really cannot tell the difference between the fakes and the real shit, lets put it that way. i hear they actually take pride in being able to replicate things without people being able to tell the difference and they actually like the challenge of replicating things that are hard to replicate. they have even started making fake gibson les paul customs and all kinds of other fake gibson guitars in china that look almost exactly the same as the real gibson guitars, with the same exact wood and hardware. i also did a quick google search of "china making fake products" and i really didn't like what i came up with! articles like crazy, video documentaries on youtube and everything. nothing pointing to fake vinyl records on the internet yet, but i still heard it from someone and it's still very upsetting. i really don't intend to piss anyone off on here with this. i just honestly think it needs to be talked about if there are people out there hearing about fake replica records being made anywhere. not just in china! that is some disturbing sick ass twisted shit! now we all know that pretty much all the early rev stuff and every other old hardcore/punk record label's early releases were simple DIY style. not very hard to duplicate with a chunk full of cash and the right resources at all. therefore it really wouldn't surprise me if there are a few fakes out there floating around of the early and most valuable rev records and other hardcore/punk label's records like dischord. however, again... i honestly hope this is not the case at all... this shit makes me literally sick in my stomach... again, i just feel this needs to be hammered out and discussed...

China has been making fakes of everything since the beginning of time. Back in the nineties, you could buy bootleg Simpsons everywhere all made in China.
Nowadays outside the Europe Union in the more popular holiday countries you can buy any brand (Gucci, Louis Vuitton etc ) shirts, bags, sun glasses and sweaters for a few bucks mostly in small shops near the beach. This has been happening for at least two decades aka as long as I can remember.
Last few years there are some good knock off football (soccer red.) shirts coming from China. Mostly ordered directly from Chinese, Hong Kong or Thai webshops, also no new trend.
Obviously Misfits records get bootlegged a lot, but all of those are made in Europe and a small number in North America, never heard of seen any Chinese bootlegs.

yeah guys. this kind of shit pisses me off something fierce. i can't even wrap my mind around why someone would even think about putting their own money and time into booting any records. it's far beyond me... i even heard about a dude who has vintage rubber batman and superman stampers in his saved searches on ebay. sooo not cool at all. fuckin sad!!!!!!!!

I did some more research on this matter.
According to a few interviews with Chinese record labels that actually do vinyl releases, they have to press them in the USA or Europe since there isn't a pressing plant left in China. Everything was sold off years ago.
China apparently is more of digital and in some small cases a cd and tape country. Besides in the small indie scene, there is barely any interest in vinyl.

I work next to City Hall which is next to China town in NYC and I have never seen a record sold anywhere in that whole neighborhood ever (which is actually pretty small) let alone any punk/hc vinyl. Mostly ill food and extremely fake glasses/purses/watches etc.
Nothing new/to worry about here imho.

go figure. eddie leeway and mike judge just had a nice long discussion about something like this on Facebook a few hours ago. go on there and peep it out. the only difference is eddie seems to be having trouble with a dude in indonesia and mike chimed in saying judge has been having bootleg problems forever... so, i wouldn't speak too soon about myths being busted... lol. even though i honestly hope to god that this kind of shit never happens. i mean wow? i don't even know anymore? just sweep it under the rug i guess. lol

i changed the title of this thread to better accomodate the point and discussion. it really doesn't matter where bootlegging is taking place. it is wrong no matter where it is done.

There are plenty of bootleg judge shirts. Also they would be referring to the live bootleg 7", rev can suck it 10" and LP and I've also seen mike refer to the No Apologies Chung King sessions on lost and found as a bootleg. So yes they are all bootlegs, but nothing you would confuse with an original.

you can order now Giphon guitars in china (Aliexpress) and if you ask them, the put the original Gibson logo and everything on it. Gibson had Guitars produced tehre for years, so they porbably have all the original gear to produce original gibsons just for 260 usd.
i might start collecting gibson guitars...

I have some doubt about a perfect reproduction : in 2002 the way to producing colors for the printing process changed a lot. Also The paper was more organic now is more chemical. You can compare for example the GB start today first press with the most recent press, can you see the differences? I can tell that would be really hard make a perfect copy today
