Went to The Martian yesterday, good movie especially if you like sci-fi. Some funny stuff too. Beautiful nature shots in 3D (filmed in Jordan). No, not Jordan as in Cooper, duh.

I am catching up on all the series after summer. I think Homeland is holding up, but Walking Dead is becoming more boring by the minute. So hooked on Fargo at the moment.

I am catching up on all the series after summer. I think Homeland is holding up, but Walking Dead is becoming more boring by the minute. So hooked on Fargo at the moment. Gave up on the walking dead last year. One good episode followed by 3 or 4 really tedious ones and all the characters got really annoying. I didn't even care when Tyrese died and I liked him. I knew it was time to knock it on the head then. Mr robot season 1 was amazing. Also just finished season 3 of Hannibal which is some of the best TV shit ever. I find great shows are way better than most new movies these days.

Lots of great TV shows in 2015. For me the highlights were-Banshee (season 3), Mr Robot (season 1), Ash vs the evil dead, Bosch, Hannibal (season 3).

Stranger Things is my jam. Great Stephen Kings meets X-files in Regan era setting with a nice eighties movies vibe but with the speed of modern television. Really good!

Had two pretty long bus rides recently so I managed to watch a bunch of things.
True Detective - Season 1: Great mini series, although the final episode leaves something to be desired. But the overall atmosphere of the show is awesome. Harrelson and McConaughey have a great dynamic. Haven't heart that many good things about season 2 (different cast), so I'm not sure if I want to watch that. I'll give it a shot most likely.
Django Unchained: Not Tarantino's best movie, but I felt entertained throughout the whole movie. I wish Michael K. Williams would have played Django. That would have been awesome.
Spotlight: Great movie. Needs to be revisited at some point.
Selma: Intense. Will also watch again.
The Revenant: Boring. Weak story dragging along for way too long. And I'll never understand how DiCaprio won an Oscar for that. He says like 20 sentences in the whole movie and the rest is grunting while crawling on the ground. He's starred in better roles that were more Oscar-worthy. Tom Hardy was so much better than him in that movie. Also, that Native American chief basically says the same sentence in every second scene. Very annoying. The landscape shots are incredible though.

NARCOS was real good. They should have made the white DEA geezer look as whimpy as the real life one. When you look at the real pictures of that guy, he makes Ned Flanders look like a super hero.

New Star Wars was bonkers!
Also enjoying Dirk Gently, one of the weirdest series ever. But very very good. Also in the first episode you can spot a Faith flyer and a National Of Ulysses LP.

I'm gonna watch the new SW on Sunday. I'll check the Dirk series this week. Talking of detective series I watched Stan Lee's Lucky Man. It was quite OK. Also, my sister says Utopia is insane. I downloaded 2 series which I'm gonna watch over the holidays.

I just checked.. I never knew that the 2nd half of the vikings series 4 started. They're doing it by 20 now... I'll get on it. All I'm watching now is The Grand Tour. They're in Namibia now. The Chris Evans / Joey Top Gear was a fucking disaster. The Grand Tour on the other hand delivers all you ever expected and then some. Attachments:

I stopped watching Vikings during season 2. Too much of the same. You could say that just about any TV genre there is: Stopped watching Walking Dead, too many zombies in every episode. Damages, too many lawsuits. CSI, in every episode they solve a crime... boring. Boardwalk Empire, Buscemi pimps the system and makes a nicker in the process. Every day, all day long. Top Gear, the big one is always obnoxious, the middle one is slow and the short one is .. short. And it's not even about cars anymore. I can go on. Vikings is brilliant because: a) they speak English (like Jesus) but with funny accents b) they have their thing going, namely, raid, torch, rape, kill and pillage. Repeat that on shuffle. Throw in some boat building, a torture sequence or a sex scene, which are sort of like cushions on the sofa, don't really need them but it's nice if they're there and you have some great television for white, semi educated, unaware of any historical context, middle class me. I'm getting into the 2nd part of the series 4. Great time killer when on the train to work.

While on the Viking subject, a few years ago I watched an interesting documentary about some blacksmith chap trying to recreate the Ulfberht sword using only the authentic methods/equipment. What they said in there was that the original Ulfberht swords were made with high quality steel, very low in impurities, quite similar to the Damascus steel. There were however some Ulfberht inscripted swords found that were fashioned out of the regular, run of the mill type of steel that was prevalent in that time all over Europe. The conclusion was that Ulfberht was a sort of a "brand name" of that time that commanded higher prices, therefore local blacksmiths would put it on anything to make an extra nicker selling shite to people. Think today's Made in China ARMANI or VERSACE clothes and accesories. An interesting, Viking related fact that came back to me just now.
